BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) – Most Thais surveyed understand and how to protect themselves from contracting the Influenza A (H1N1) virus and are confident on doctors in containing the disease, according to a poll conducted recently by the Suan Dusit Poll.
The survey, made of 1,143 people living in Bangkok and other provinces Wednesday and Thursday, found that 62 per cent of the respondents said they understood about the virus while 26 per cent said they had a good knowledge of the disease.
Fifty-one per cent of respondents said they are confident that the government, the public health ministry and the country’s medical establishment is competent to contain the disease.
According to the survey, 44 per cent did not have that confidence, saying the information from the ministry was confused, so the public is unable to know the severity of the viral threat.
Thailand’s Bureau of Epidemiology on Friday reported 71 new Influenza A (H1N1) diagnoses, raising the country’s total number of virus cases to 589.
According to the Bureau‘s report, Type A patients were detected in 24 provinces between April 28 and June 19, with most cases in Bangkok at 349.
