BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) – Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) chairman Pakorn Malakul Na Ayudhya on Thursday shrugged off news reports about internal conflicts arising from the board’s failure to extend terms of service for three senior executive vice presidents of the exchange.
“There are no internal conflicts in SET. What happened is just a misunderstanding that the Board of Directors failed to extend the terms of the senior executives,” he said.
He admitted the board’s meeting held on May 27 failed to consider extending terms for the three senior executives because he was absent due to personal business obligations.
However, the meeting reconvened on June 17 and approved the extension of terms of the three executives for four years.
Mr. Pakorn affirmed the SET executives had a proper understanding of the need to restructure the exchange. They are ready to see SET become a corporate entity.
Regarding the early retirement program, he said no staff had been forced to leave, although some staff had applied to use the program on a voluntary basis.
He downplayed criticism on the restructuring of the SET, saying it should be deemed normal because every option provides both advantages and disadvantages.
